North Road Early Learning Centre transforms an existing facility through a considered addition comprising two new crèches, reception, bathroom and staff facilities.

The new building is arranged around a central courtyard, creating a link between the existing and proposed facilities while taking advantage of the northern aspect. A playful architectural language continues from the building's barn like double pitched roof into the interior, where material and colour contribute to an environment intended to encourage imagination and discovery.

Colour was carefully investigated through a study of the Japanese Colour Dictionaries, which explore the relationships between colour and their complementary adjacencies. This research informed the selection and arrangement of colour throughout the centre, creating a considered and engaging environment for its young occupants.
