Situated on a narrow site with rear laneway access in Port Melbourne, Nott Street comprises two side by side dwellings that respond to the constraints and opportunities of an inner urban setting.

The design is centred on the experience of natural light and the everyday rituals of living. A north facing aspect informed the development of an adaptable expanded mesh screen, carefully positioned to moderate sunlight, provide privacy and encourage natural cross ventilation.

Rather than separating the home from the street, the screen establishes a considered threshold between the private and public realms. It filters light throughout the day, softens the building's interface with its surroundings and allows the occupants to engage with the changing qualities of sun, shadow and season.

The result is a home that embraces passive environmental principles while enriching the daily experience of its occupants through light, comfort and connection.
